But, like in humans, motherhood in dogs can also be one overwhelming journey. For a mama dog, any faint squeak from her little ones disrupts her sleep. She has to be constantly alert just so she can play the role of a nurturer and protector perfectly. These motherhood demands can get pretty exhausting, and no one would relate to this feeling more than Birdie, a Labrador who recently gave birth to her first litter of 14 puppies.
From the moment her babies arrived into the world, Birdie instinctively switched to full-on mom mode. Unfortunately, her first night as a new mother was tough on her, and she did what most dogs in her position would do: ask her owner for help.
“The first night with her puppies, she was overwhelmed. She wanted to be with me in bed like we sleep every night. But she also knew her babies needed her,” Birdie’s owner captioned in a touching TikTok video that has since gone viral.
The heartwarming clip shows Birdie carrying her puppies one by one from her bed to her owner’s bed. As she hands each pup to her owner, her fatigued eyes seem to say, “I can’t do this on my own.” One can tell that Birdie desperately needed extra comfort and support from her owner, and lucky for her, she got exactly that.
